Faux Boix
Using a multitude of techniques, the look of wood can be recreated. From the rough-hewn planks of pine, to the highly polished, fine grain of mahogany, to white-washed or fantasy grain in any colour, different styles can be created to match existing wood or to suit your tastes.
Beginning life as a melamine etager for the hallway, the original fake oak grain was much too large for the slight scale of this piece. The new look is a blue "stained" grain, finished with a patina to denote age.
Kitchen cupboards with 40 years of paint were much simpler to refinish in a faux-bois paint technique rather than trying to strip and stain them. A beautiful shade of green was chosen to coordinate with the new yellow rag roll to brighten the kitchen that only gets cool north light.
This dresser was revamped to match the new furniture in the room. The top was fashioned from MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) then painted to look like a fine-grained stained wood.
Design: Destinctive Designs
A dresser with peeling veneer that was almost beyond repair was given a paint make-over to suit the client's decor.
A sentimental piece, as it was handed down from the client's grandmother, was given new life a "faux-pine" buffet to match the existing dining set. The tarnished drawer handles were painted in matte black, giving them the look and feel of wrought iron.
